Fancy Folds – Diamond Z Fold

Thanks for joining us this month! We’re hopping all over the world with some fun cards. It’s time for the new Fancy Fold for this month – a Diamond Z Fold!

For today’s project, I couldn’t help myself cut to show you a sneak peek of something coming up next month in the new Mini Catalog…

I’ve used a new bundle, Joyful Flurry. It’s got some cute new snowflakes to help me get started on my Christmas card ideas!

It’s also great for this card fold, as I can highlight the snowflakes in the diamonds!

Here’s what the front looks like:

When you open it all the way up, you see the full image of the biggest flake.

To get this, take a typical card base folded in half, and then fold the front half in half again. This gives you the flap that you can glue the diamonds onto.

The middle snowflake is popped up on a piece of cardstock folded into a box shape and glued to the inside of the card, like this:

You can make this is a variety of sizes, but this is a standard 4.25″ x 5.5″ card.

The base for the diamonds on the front I played with until I found the size I liked. These are 1 – 15/16″ squares.

This way when you rotate them to be diamonds, they completely fill the space of the card from top to bottom. You can then layer additional squares on top with white and DSP, each just 1/8″ smaller than the previous layer.

I made the inside diamond just a bit bigger to fill in the space available. This piece ended up being 2 1/8″ square for the base layer.

The little extra piece of cardstock that I folded into a box was 5″ long x 1.5″ high. This holds the inside snowflake diamond.

I folded it in half, then each piece in half again (so each side it 1.25″). You glue two sides inside the card, so it pops up when you open the card.

You can see in the pictures that with this size, you can align the diamond right next to the center fold of the card, and when it closes, it will line up with the right-side edge of the card.

Here’s a decorating tip when using some DSP…  stamp right on it!! I added some stamped off snowflakes onto the polka dots to tie it with the design.

I hope you like this and take a few minutes to make one yourself!
