Fancy Folds – Dual Pop Up Card

Thanks for joining us this month! We’re hopping all over the world with some fun cards. It’s time for the new Fancy Fold for this month – a Dual Pop-Up Card!

This is such a neat card, with a surprise twist when you open it.

I’ve kept the stamping and designs pretty simple, so you can focus on the fancy fold.

Here’s the front, where it looks like a regular card.

But when you open it up, you get this fun set of doors!

You can decorate more on the inside, but I kept it clean so you can write a message on the white.

Here are the dimensions needed for the cardstock pieces:

  • Base:
    • 8-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ (pink)
      • Score in half at 4-1/8″
      • NOTE:  The video here is where I learned to make this, but I adjusted some of the measurements to fit in a standard envelope for the U.S.
    • DSP for front: 5-1/4″ x 3-7/8″
  • Inside:
    • 5-/4″ x 3-7/8″ (DSP for top)
    • 3-7/8″ x 1/2″ (DSP for skinny pillars)
    • 3-7/8″ x 3-3/4″ (DSP)
    • 3-1/2″ x 3-3/8″ (white)
  • Door Panels:
    • 3-1/4″ x 2-1/8″ (need 2 pink)
    • 3″ x 1-7/8″ (need 4 – light colored DSP)
    • 2-7/8″ x 1-3/4″ (need 4 – darker DSP)
    • These will overlap in the middle when closed. You can make them smaller if you want them to meet in the middle)
  • skinny pieces (to attach panels), need 2:
    • 4-7/8″ x 1-1/8″ (pink)
    • Score at 3/4″ down the long side, see picture

Here is a picture of the skinny pieces that create the opening mechanism:

Score it at 3/4″. Make a mark at 1.5″ down the side (on the wider side), then at 3/4″ down the scoreline.

Draw a line to the corner as shown in the photo and cut out the little piece on the skinny side. Score the lines and erase and marks made.

You can use scraps to fill in any little triangles that are bare once you assemble the pieces.

I recommend watching the video to see it put together in action, just to see how it works. Remember that I adjusted some of the measurements, so those will not be exactly the same as shown.

It may be hard to explain, but once one is made, it’s actually pretty easy to put together again. You can also mix up the DSP patterns, and even change the sizes of the doors if you like!

I hope you find this one fun and take a few minutes to make one yourself!
