Fancy Folds – Freestanding Pop-up Card

Hi folks!  Thanks for joining us this month! We’re hopping all over the world with some fun cards. It’s time for the new Fancy Fold for this month – the Freestanding Pop-up Card!

This is a fun one to give because it’s like a piece of art! It folds flat for mailing, but stands up by itself when you pop it up.

Let me show you the final product so you know what it looks like while I explain it.

There are two pieces, the base and then the pop up piece.

The base started with a half sheet of cardstock, 4.25″ x 11″.

I scored it in half at 5.5″. Then, also from the ends, go in 1″, then another 1.75″, then another 1″, then another 1.75″. This is a lot easier than remembering all the individual numbers.

In the middle of the score line halfway in the card, I made a skinny slit (I made it a little wider than just a single cut so I could slide embellishments through) – it looks like this when done:

When the base is folded up it up to look like this:

Glue the pop up piece to the inside of the flaps and make sure it sticks out the slit. When it is all decorated with the piece sticking out the top, the side looks like this:

That’s as technical as it gets. The fun part is doing the decorating.

I’m still trying to force Spring to show up here in the States, despite the snow still on the ground. I used the Bird Ballad Suite with fun spring colors, flowers and birds!

I used the Designer Series Paper to decorate the base on all the panels. I used the Free as a Bird stamp set and stamped the bird, leaves and sentiment on a piece of Whisper White that I die cut with the Stitched So Sweetly dies. I layered it on the larger size die in Black. It’s all placed on Daffodil Delight.

I stamped some flowers and cut them out by hand. Everything was colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers. I used the Pool Party, Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral, Soft Suede, and Old Olive colors.

To finish the card with some accessories, I tied my bow with the Braided Linen Trim, added Wink of Stella, and Rhinestones. I think it turned out wonderfully.

To close the card, the pop up piece gets pushed back down in the card, and the sides collapse, like this:

This is what it looks like all folded up, with an extra flower to say Hello on the front:

I really hope you liked this one and decide to give it a try. There are so many possibilities!
