PPA219 Pals Paper Arts – trees galore!
September 14, 2014
Hey folks, found another challenge!! This time it’s with the Pals Paper Arts PPA219, and it was a color challenge.
I had just made a card this week for a swap card, and it used similar colors, so I figured I could tweak it a little, and use it for the challenge. Turns out, after I did that, it looked a lot like one of the samples provided by one of the designers, Brian King! I guess great minds think alike, right?!? 🙂 SOOOOO, I had to tweak it up a bit more. I didn’t want it to be too similar!
After all the tweaking, I like the results. You get a treat today, because you get to see all three versions!
Here’s the card I made for swapping at the “Unite & Excite” event on Friday:I used Mossy Meadow, Pear Pizzazz and Crushed Curry for this one.
Next, here’s the modified version to use the correct colors for the challenge:
And, finally… here’s the version I completely modified to use:
I really like this one. It’s got bonus sparkle, too – in the form of Iridescent Ice embossing powder. I wanted to keep it simple, and went back to one of my favorite sets of-all-time: Lovely as a Tree. I have made so many cards with this set, I just love the huge pine, and the row of leaf-less trees. The first two cards actually use the new Festival of Trees set in the Holiday Catalog for the background trees, since they are smaller. I didn’t use that on the last card though. I also put a layer of vellum over the trees, and that is what I embossed on. The candy dots conveniently covered up the glue dots I used to hold it on.
Behind the scenes: What you probably can’t tell on the first two is that I actually used a mask made from the Chalk Talk framelits. I cut out the big tag, used the outside of the paper (meaning not the tag itself – use the original piece that’s left), then snipped off the piece in the middle to get a rectangle with angled corners. This was a lot easier for mass producing swap cards instead of repositioning a ton of sticky notes for each card! The color in the rectangle is just sponged on to blend the colors.
Here are the items used for these:
